college educated, she graduated

This weekend I traveled to Minnesota to watch my youngest sister graduate from college! She has worked incredibly hard, and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in marketing. Basically she's a genius, and we are so proud of her.

It's been so long since I last posted an outfit picture! The scrub life definitely severely limits buying and wearing clothes, so I rarely do now a days! I did recently buy this amazing Old Navy dress though and I'm obsessed...so much that I also bought it in black! It fits true to size - I tried on both a tall large and a large, and found the regular length to hit me right above the knee rather than below. The fabric is a thick ponte fabric, so I find it to be a bit more flattering than a thinner cotton material. Overall, probably one of my favorite dresses that I currently own! It also comes in a really cute grey/white strip combo that I'm eyeing...

see, speak, hear

I think I'm probably one of the worst bloggers when it comes to blogging while traveling. When I travel, I should see it as the perfect opportunity to put together cute outfits, research good photography locations, and see this as a way to really expanding the amount of outfit posts I do on here. Instead, I very rarely put together outfits beforehand - instead, I throw a few of my favorite items into a suitcase and hope it all works out. I'd rather spend time doing my sisters' hair than my own, so I'm always less likely to want to take pictures when my hair has been tossed around by the wind. And outfit pictures should be taken right after putting on an outfit, not after crouching an an uber for 20 minutes and sitting down for a delicious brunch for a few hours.

So typically, I don't really take outfit pictures while on vacation because I'm lazy, but when we were in the Wynwood neighborhood exploring all of the murals, I couldn't help but take just a couple of snaps (thanks again to my sister for always being my photographer!). It's like a bloggers dream down there! So many beautiful walls, all with different colors and stories to tell. We all had so much fun, just walking around, taking pictures of various walls, and popping into the stores in the area. If you are planning a trip to Miami, this is definitely a great way to spend a few hours outside! Especially if you need to go on a long walk after eating a delicious salmon benedict breakfast...

J.Crew Factory is currently having a flash sale for 35% off everything + free shipping. Below are a few of the adorable items currently on their site. I'm personally ordering the striped dress (I've wanted one like this for years!) and possibly the leopard loafers (I used to own a similar pair years ago and was obsessed with them!). I'd also recommend the layered pearl necklace - I have it and wear it constantly. It's been one of my favorite jewelry purchases over the years!

student doctahs - white coat ceremony!

DSC08581
[my friends are so good looking]
These last four days have been a crazy whirlwind of surprises and celebrations. On Thursday, my sneaky sneaky friends threw me a surprise birthday party and they totally pulled it off because I'm completely oblivious. It was amazing, and so sweet of them - I honestly couldn't ask for a better group of friends. We had delicious food (some made by me because I thought we were just having dinner), apple cider, chai cupcakes, and a pinata for me to hit. At one point of the evening, I was walking from my house back to theirs when I ran into my aunt and uncle in the parking lot - they flew over from Germany to surprise me for my birthday! It's not often that I'm speechless but those were two moments within hours of each other.

My parents and brother flew in on Friday for my white coat ceremony. The day of the ceremony was also my birthday so we had heaps of celebrating to do. We didn't get lucky with the weather for most of the day, so I wore my favorite pants instead of the dress I had planned on wearing. We received our shiny new short coats, and stethoscopes (mine is red, which is the same color that my dad and sister have!). Receiving the coat made it all feel a little bit more real - it sometimes feels like we're just playing school instead of actually becoming doctors.

For my birthday, my aunt and uncles bought me the dirndl I tried on in June - it's like it was made for me! Polka dots, more dots, and it has pockets. Now I just need to find a way to get to Oktoberfest so I can actually wear it somewhere!

My parents got me the most beautiful bag - it's actually the same one my mom has so now we can be twins :) My roommate made me a terrarium, and Hans received a fun new present too - doesn't he look like he loves it?

Overall it was a really great weekend. I'm not one to talk about being blessed all the time, but I feel really lucky to have such a great family and group of friends both in real life and online. Thank you for all of the well-wishes!

Deutschland x Zwei

DSC00076
Guten Tag! Another little update from Germany (see the first update here). Since leaving my grandma's, we've been in the city where my aunt and uncle live. I lived here in 8th grade when I went to school here for a year, and it's interesting to see how much, and at the same time how little, has changed. Here are a few snapshots...

The pharmacies are always so fancy here, especially the signs...

...and so are the jewelry stores.

My aunt makes amazing quilts. She made me one back in 8th grade, and I still use it all the time. She made this one for my cousin, her stepson, for his 30th birthday.

Out in the city with my aunt's dog, Hermione. She's the most playful dog I've ever met. She looks like such a little teddy bear!

Yesterday was my cousin Johann's 30 birthday. Family members, co-workers, and childhood friends all came together to celebrate.

He was thrilled that his uncle, my father, was there.

At 82, my grandma was the first up to dance! Ok, just kidding, but she was having a great time.

Now my second cousins (I consider them first cousins because we're close in age and because our family is so small) are here with their babies. Tomorrow we leave to fly back already. I'm sad to leave, but at the time same I'm happy to going back to my own bed, my own schedule, and not eating all the time (ok, I will miss that).

Graduation, Part 2

Today's the day Max finally graduated from high school. I still think of him as my little 6 year old brother - the one we dressed up as our third sister, the one we called when there was a bug that needed killing, the one I had to sleep next to for a year so he wouldn't sleep walk. I can't believe we're at the point where he'll be going off to college in 3 months. Here are a couple of pictures celebrating the day:
School colors of black and orange.
Our "Uncle" Will. He lived in the duplex above us during my dad's residency and has been a part of our lives ever since.
 My proud parents.
The family - my dad, mom, grandma, brother, sister and uncle.
My cute 81 year old grandma - doesn't she look great?
We miss you Viktoria!
 Siblings - can you tell?

Remember when I said my mom is one of the most stylish people I know, and her greatest advice is to mix high end up more inexpensive pieces? Case in point.

As We Go On, We Remember...

My little brother is graduating from high school this weekend - we're so proud and excited for him! My aunt and uncle bought him an authentic pair of Lederhosen as a graduation present - look how handsome he looks! We spent Saturday with close friends and family eating, joking and celebrating...

Tobi, our one eyed retriever, spent the day trying to sneak bites from everyone's plates.
While photographing Max, he grabbed the camera and snapped a couple pictures of me.

We can tell that Viktoria got the modeling gene since after about 3 shots I felt so awkward I resorted to this face:

No celebrations are complete without Jaeger shots, at least not in this family!

My Oma {that's Grandma for all you English speakers} came over for the celebration. Inspiration that you can by stylish at any age.

My pretty sister Karoline.

Chris has been working really hard studying for his boards coming up in 3 weeks, so I was really excited that he could come join us for the day. My grandma just loves him....

 Pops.

My mother's famous tiramisu. If I had to choose 1 food to eat the rest of my life, then this is it. Recipe coming soon!

Since I have to wear pants and flats at work every day, I get really excited when I have the opportunity to wear dresses and skirts but since I don't get a chance to wear them often, I don't really own a lot. Since reading Whitney's blog {Between the Lines} I've been day dreaming about all the cute ways to find and wear skirts - she always looks so great!

I just discovered that we have a Loft in Madison, so I stopped by on my out of town on Friday. I found this great skirt {on sale for $20} but unfortunately it was at least a size too big. I bought it anyway and am going to try to alter it myself...we'll see how that goes. Anyone have any tips? Or should I save myself the hassle and just take it to a tailor?
