Behind the Blog: The Preppy Leopard

Tierney is an adorable Southern fashion blogger who blogs at The Preppy Leopard. She's my go-to girl for her opinions on lipstick, hair bows, and anything preppy.

Quick Intro:

My name is Tierney (Tear-a-knee), and I live in Northern Virginia right outside of DC.  I work as a consultant and business analyst for an IT firm that caters to government clients and blog in my spare time.  I also am very active in my church and with volunteering.  I've been to Kenya four times and St. Kitts twice to work with children, and those experiences really changed my perspective on life.

The Preppy Leopard was created from my love of classic styles with touches of personality--my father was in the military and my mother is from New Jersey, and I like to think my style reflects both of them.   Lots of nautical pieces with pops of leopard.  I also have an undying affection for bright red lipstick, and my style inspiration would be the love child of Dita Von Teese and Blair Waldorf.

Tell us what motivate you to start blogging. Were you following a lot of personal style/fashion blogs before you started blogging?

It's Geometric

In my October budget post I mentioned that I wanted to find a printed sweater this month. After spotting this sweater, I knew I wanted to try it out. I got a little click happy and ordered several other items from Urban Outfitters, and told myself I would either keep some of them, or this sweater. Although I really really liked the watch I ordered, I did just receive a beautiful watch for my birthday, and I don't own a big comfy printed wrap sweater, so I returned the watch along with another sweater and a pair of shoes to keep this sweater. The sweater costs a bit more than I would normally spend on a sweater, but I'm trying to buy fewer pieces with higher quality than a bunch of lower quality items.

I know for many items I buy I say that I have to think of at least 5 outfits I can put together with that piece of clothing. While I do think that should apply to the majority of one's closet, every once in a while it's nice to have that statement piece that may only be able to be worn a few ways.

Stripes and Cargo

I've been on the look out for a blue and white striped button up blouse for a while, ever since I saw one on Alternations Needed and J's Everyday Fashion. Kelly's was too expensive, and J's was too boxy on me, so I was thrilled when I found this inexpensive and longer version at Forever 21. I've been really pleased with my last few purchases there because I'm finally figuring out what sections to avoid (like 90% of the store) and what just won't fit me (blazers, all dresses/skirts, pants).

Even though I just wore this vest last week (and although my coworker Emily hates it), I knew it was what I wanted to wear with it first. For someone who wasn't sure about keeping it, I sure am wearing it a lot. Were you ever unsure about a purchase and then ended up loving it?

Lace and Leopard

After yesterday's little experiment in pajamas for work wear, I was happy to put something a little more fashion conservative on. I just really love this blazer. I didn't even realize that today was the day What I Wore's Fall Remix Challenge was going up...where I'm wearing this blazer. I'm not even sorry. I'm now stalking eBay for a camel version. I found one in my price range, but in the last hour of bidding, it doubled in price so that was a bummer. Are you a big eBay buyer or do you prefer to find your steals in person?

Night Time...Day Time!

When I'm thrifting, I try on anything that catches my attention while looking through the racks because you never know until you try it on! I grabbed this top and ended up really liking it...even though I'm unsure if it's originally a real top or a pajama top. Good news is that those in the know say that PJs as real clothes are totally fashionable right now so that makes me fashionable too, right?


All kidding aside, I do really like this top. It's soft, slightly oversized, and a color that isn't in my closet. I'm excited to try it with a blazer over it, or with a skirt like Tierney suggested.

Plus for $3.99, how could I say no?

Behind the Blog: Blue Paper Lanterns

Last week I featured Whitney from Along the Lines of Style for the first installment of Behind the Blog. This week I'm interviewing Kimmie who blogs at Blue Paper Lanterns. Kimmie and I met through a somewhat strange situation but am so glad we found each other. Kimmie is a smart working woman who also has two adorable kids.
