Süßigkeit

DSC02607
This week's German word is Süßigkeit (please record yourself trying to say that and send it to me for the lols) which means candy. The bracelet I'm wearing looks exactly like a type of Haribo candy...but for the life of me I can't find what it's called. I can honestly taste it in my mouth though! It always reminds me of the sitting in my Grandma's living room where she kept a jar of it on the table in between the couches. 25 years later she still keeps candy in there, and we all still go for it when we're congregated together.

Are there any candy memories you have from childhood?

this ol' thing?

olive dress, dark cardigan
Last week Jessica from Here & Now (did you read her Behind the Blog?) wrote about how she often buys a new dress for every occasion instead of trying to re-wear the dresses for different events. I can totally relate because I too have a closet full of dresses that have only been worn once. Since the occasion to wear them are few and far between, I always use it an excuse to buy a new dress. I got this dress last year for my friends Kayla and Craig's wedding, but haven't worn it since. I figured that Kimmie's "Oh, This Old Thing?" link-up would be the perfect opportunity to re-wear it. It may not be the oldest thing in my closet (I think that "honor" goes to my tan belt that I think is from Aeropostale...but that hasn't been verified), but it is something that hasn't been out of my closet more than once. Make sure you link up with her and see what everyone else dug up!

Nicole boots
Can we talk about my new boots? I know, quick turn around. When I was on my way to the UPS store to ship the rubber leather boots back, I decided to stop by at DSW. These boots were the first thing I tried on, and even though I paid full DSW price for them, I'm really excited about them. They remind me a lot of these Frye boots, but for a third of the price. I forgot how much I hate breaking in boots (my poor toes), but I think they'll be perfect in just a few wears.

Tights for TOPIO. Oh man, really breaking the creativity bank. I tried to wear the dress as a shirt but there was just too much material. hmph.

fate

striped dress + vest
You know how sometimes when we're shopping and we find something that we think is cute and it's the last piece and it's our size? We tell ourselves it's fate and buy it because the universe has clearly decided that it was meant to be for us to own that jacket / scarf / ring. Yeah, I'm not immune to that feeling either.

I mentioned that I was looking for a new pair of boots and when I saw that this pair (at the time) only had one pair left and in my size, I did not even hesitate to press buy. Obviously the fashion gods felt that I needed to own those boots. A week later they arrived at my front step, and I'm now a fashion atheist because girl, no. They look like plastic rain boots! Not what I expected from something that claims to be leather boots. I know my expectations are higher because I love my Frye boots so much, but another pair of such expensive boots is just not a possibility right now (especially since I need to be good about saving money while I'm still working). Back those go. Next up: this pair or this pair.

Maybe they'll make me be a believer again.

slip & slide

blazer, tee, gingham
First of all, thank you SO MUCH for all of your kind words yesterday - I am so excited!! To answer a few questions, I do intend to continue blogging as long as it still is fun for me. Medical school is a crazy time, and I always regret not documenting college better (other than lots of facebook albums haha) so I'm hoping to document this new chapter. There are many ladies out there blogging through med school/residency (find some here under Dr. Blogger) that have really inspired me so I hope to follow their lead. There will be lots of changes, of course - I'll need a somewhat different wardrobe (more skirts, less ripped jeans), I probably won't blog daily, I'll be wearing a white coat instead of a lab coat (just kidding, that'll pretty much be the same). I'll take it all one day at a time, but there are several more months until anything really changes.

Second of all, don't let what looks like a clear road here fool you. While there isn't any snow, the road was covered in some fun black ice. Which I didn't realize until I started sliding all over the place, which included accidently taking this:

Feel free to laugh because I laughed for about 5 minutes when I saw it on my camera.

* Thank you to Audrey for finding this gem. It's actually a t-shirt but it worked so well for layering as long as I kept the blazer on - otherwise it looks kind of funny

accepted

^ See that beautifully put together outfit? Expect to see heaps more of it because...

I've been accepted to medical school!!

It's something I haven't really talked about on my blog because the process is so uncertain and with some setbacks a few months ago I didn't know if it would ever happen....but today I received the acceptance letter in the mail. Everything in my life is going to change come the middle of the summer when I move 10 hours away from here and start the long journey to becoming a doctor. All I know is that I'm so excited that I stuck it out after taking general chemistry when I wasn't sure if science was for me. It's been a long and trying road to get here, and it's not going to get easier but I'm excited that I've been given the opportunity to become a doctor.

behind the blog: here & now

This week's Behind the Blog is about a girl close to my heart...and brain! Jessica, who blogs at Here & Now, is a Ph.D student in biomedical research so she feels me on my lab coat pain but luckily for all of us, she has a great sense of style underneath it. Please give her a warm welcome!
Tell us what motivate you to start blogging. Were you following a lot of personal style/fashion blogs before you started blogging?

thrice

Layer button up, v-neck, blazer
When I was playing around with what item from Monday to wear today (I didn't go to work yesterday so no pass it on for Tuesday!), Kelly from Alterations Needed (one of my favorite petite/overall bloggers) shared a video on vine on layering...and I realized I had all of those pieces! Ta-da, outfit made. I think this is one of my favorite outfits yet - it was comfortable yet polished.

Plus my spiffy new camera lens makes everything look so fresh and so clean.
