Today is the start of the Shopbop Friends + Family event, where everything is 25% off with code SPRING25 (some exclusions apply). Their bag selection is really wonderful, and I had such a hard time narrowing down some of my picks, so I figured a little chart would help :)

I've been eyeing up their crossbody options lately because I still don't have a cognac one, and it's really the leather color I wear the most. I've decided to finally order this one as it's a classic shape and only has a small logo on it, which is what I prefer. I'm going to use this as an opportunity to upgrade some of my denim. I have several pairs of jeans that I have just completely worn through (not so bad, $30 jeans lasting 5 years!) so I'd like to get a pair of causal lightly distressed jeans. I have several pairs of dark ("nice") jeans, but I love the look of just a bit of distressing for days off. I'm thinking this pair will be what I try - I love that the color is a bit different! I also added this looser sweater (in pale pink) to my order - it doesn't follow my usual set of "rules" but I'm also a little sick of those rules...

I bought my pair of red ballet flats from Old Navy for $8 on a total whim almost 3 years ago. I didn't think I would get that much use out of them, but I was trying to branch out and try new things, so red flats seemed like a great place to start. I've worn these shoes countless times since then, and so therefore, it's time to replace and upgrade them. 

I've been such a fan of the Salvatore Ferragamo flats for years. Many of my favorite bloggers, who are all working ladies whose taste and opinion I highly trust, can't stop raving about them (see the teal on Jessica, the red on Adina, the blue on Rachelle, and the nude on Jean). Since I teamed up with Shopbop last fall, I've approached it as an opportunity to add a few pieces to my closet that at this point in my life (ie finances) I couldn't otherwise. I've been hoarding my credits for the last few months, and I'll finally be able to order my own pair at the end of the month. I know that a pair of classic red flats will be a staple in my closet, and so I'm excited to add this beautiful pair to mine. 

what I should have done differently

I loved this outfit the day I wore it - my pants were newly pressed, the snow was melting so I didn't have to wear boots (#hussyankles), and I got so many compliments on my new scarf (rightfully so...). Then after looking at these pictures I really thought I should have worn a blazer or more layers or something - this is kind of a boring outfit, huh? Nothing really special about it other than I liked wearing it. 

But here we are, looking at it on the internet anyway. I fight with myself a lot when it comes to picking out my outfits, and then uploading the pictures to share with you guys. I want to look nice and have it be interesting, but I also don't want to be fake, or just wear something because of the blog. I know a lot of us "every day women" bloggers struggle with that - dressing up enough to have it be worth sharing, but not dressing "for the blog". Do I think I may have been a bit lazy with this outfit? Sure - I could have layered a bit more, worn some bright lipstick, maybe tried to tame the frizz or made sure my shirt was properly tucked in (whoops!), but in the end, this blog is still a learning experience for me, my body, and my closet. 

Things I do know though? That this scarf is amazing and as soon as it stops being a BR Pick, everyone should buy it so we can all be twins. You'll love it, I promise.

all about that [bag]

I don't buy a ton of bags - I just checked my budget posts, and the last time I bought a bag was in July 2013, and it was a Target bag I used for school during my first year. I tend to be pretty picky with bags (if they aren't for school - those get worn out fairly quickly) because I know they'll be my possession for a long time. I also don't have a lot of use for a ton of different bags since so much of my time is spent doing school thing. Outside of school bags, I only have my Madewell Transport Tote, and my vintage Coach crossbody that I found on Etsy (for a sixth of the cost of the current retail version!). 

I would like to add one smaller, well made bag to the collection though, and there's no better time than with my current collaboration with Shopbop (because like my girl Tierney said, if I want something long lasting, go for the bags). Shopbop has sooo many beautiful bags that it was hard to narrow down my choices, but here are my top six choices. Which one is your favorite?

During Shopbop's Friends and Family sale last week, I used store credit to purchase a rose gold Michael Kors watch, and a soft cream sweater from Madewell. Thanks to their 2-day Amazon Prime shipping, they showed up super quick! I've been wearing the watch non-stop - I love that it's so different from the rest of my watch collection with it's coloring and rectangular face. Unfortunately, the sweater just isn't working on me. It's a slightly boxy fit, and even though it's a longer fit as well, it just leaves me looking overly...fluffy. Without any arm, waist, or shoulder definition, I just kind of look larger than I am. Fortunately Shopbop also offers free returns (within 15 days), so it isn't going to cost anything to send it back. Unfortunately, now their sale is over! dang it.

So now what? Well like I mentioned in my initial post about my partnership with Shopbop, I really want to use this opportunity to add just a few amazing, but also long-lasting, pieces to my closet. A few things that I would LOVE to own include a Vince sweater (that cream shawl cardigan or brick texture cardigan are beautiful!) but I just don't think I can pull the trigger on them, I'm just not at the point in my life where I feel comfortable wearing something so...nice? expensive? I'm not sure, but I know I would never truly enjoy it just because I would worry about spilling something on it or snagging the fabric. Something from Velvet or Three Dots is still pricey, but more on the realistic side of owning for me - I think that contrast open cardigan is just so pretty, and probably super comfortable to wear (and easy to dress up or down!).

If not a sweater, I'm still eyeing the jeans department. I wear jeans almost every day after getting home from school, so adding a soft and stretchy pair to the rotation would be great. I really love the look of the 7 For All Mankind jeans - they don't get too weird with styles, and the colors look really rich and dark.

I still have a few weeks to decide what I'd like to add to my closet, so for now I'm going to just continue to enjoy the watch - she's just so fun! Did you end up ordering anything during the sale, and thereby scoring something great for an even better price?

Sweater ||  Watch || Shoes || Jeans

For the next couple of months, I'll be partnering with Shopbop to show of their wide range of apparel, both the affordable and higher end pieces they offer. I'm truly excited about this because of a little bit of hometown pride - the only brick and mortar Shopbop is in downtown Madison, Wisconsin! So I'll be given the opportunity to pick out a few things, and incorporate them into my daily life. I'm using this as a time to add a few things to my closet that will get worn for years to come. I'm thinking the following:

• A nice thick sweater  (check out their full range of knits here) to ring in the incoming 6 month long winter. A classic like the one above, from their Bop Basics line, is a true classic, and looks so comfy.
• I'd also like to try some higher end denim that will last for years - I've loved my Joe's Jeans for years, but I've heard so many great things about 7 for all Mankind that they may have to be the next pair to be added. A classic dark wash with midrise should be a style that has some staying power!
• I've wanted a rose gold watch forever, and ShopBop has quite the collection currently available. I feel in love the Michael Kors version above because of the beautiful metal mixed with the bright white face and classic type. 
• Lastly, shoes! The herringbone flats are super fun and probably pretty versatile, but I'm leaning towards finding either the perfect black or red pair of ballet flats. A girl can dream about those Ferragamos, right?
